The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has pledged to improve on the Institution's corporate social responsibility towards the University's host communities.

Prof. Obi stated this when she received the leadership of the Akim Youths Council who were in her office for a courtesy visit recently.

The Vice Chancellor who said she was happy to receive them, described the Akim Youths as very organized as exemplified by their patience and candor even as she encourages youths of other nationalities to emulate them.

Speaking further, the 11th Vice Chancellor of the Institution informed the youths that she recognizes the role the community has played in the development of the University hence her decision to visit the Ntoe even while she was still VC designate, adding that, it has always been her desire to work closely with the host communities.

The Institutions helmsman, while underscoring the importance of the town and gown collaboration, informed her guests that the University under her leadership will continue to explore other ways of empowering members of the host communities.

To this end, she said, the host communities should be the first to police the university, charging them to, as a matter of policy, ensure that they take ownership and protect the university from vandals and those who seek to plunder it.

In an earlier remark, the President of the Akim Youths Council (AYC), Mr. Fred Mathias Okon while congratulating the Vice Chancellor over her success at the keenly contested vice chancellorship interview, said they bring her greetings from His Majesty, the Ntoe of Akim.

According to him, the visit was primarily as a mark of solidarity and to associate with Vice Chancellor and by extension, the entire university Management.

Mr. Okon while expressing the Youths Councils appreciation for the opportunity and privilege recounts the events of the unfortunate #endsars protest hijack, and how the Akim youths took it upon themselves to defend the university.

Describing the Vice Chancellor as a mother in every sense of the word, the AYC President pledged that the AYC will continue to support the VC, as well as, protect the University at all times.

The highpoint of the visit was the presentation of an artist impression of the VC's portrait as a memento.
