The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof Florence Obi has stated that sport is good and beneficial to one's health and life in general.

Prof Florence Obi said this at an address to mark the official opening ceremony of the Malabor World Cup held at the Abraham Ordia Stadium

Prof Obi who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, of Administration, Prof Eno Nta said sports further help  break down all ethnic, social, religious and political divides and even shrink the space and size of the current economic discomfort experienced nationwide.

She lauded the organizers of the Malabor Cup competition stating that the game of football over the years has proven to be a unifying factor in turning the greatest of enemies into friends.

The University helmsman charged the competitive teams to play according to the rules in an atmosphere of peace, goodwill, friendship and oneness.

The opening ceremony was marked with the ceremonial kick-off by the Vice Chancellor and a football match between Malabor FC and Finland FC which ended 4-2 in favour of the former.
