VC COMMISSIONS PG SECRETARIAT, COMMENDS EXCO FOR THEIR COURAGE

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof Florence Banku Obi has commended the leadership of the Postgraduate Students' Government(PGSG) for building a new secretariat for the Student body.

Prof Florence Obi gave the commendation while commissioning the Secretariat situated at the Ali Mungono Postgraduate Hostel.

She lauded the PG leadership for exhibiting great courage and resilience in ensuring the completion of the project.

Prof Obi who described the PG leadership as men and women of integrity said they have written their names in gold for initiating and ensuring the actualization of the 'gigantic project'.

In her words, "I will not reject the secretariat being named after me. it's a great honour for acknowledging my support by naming the building after me"

While commending the PG Students for their cooperation during the dark times of her administration, the University helmsman reiterated that her administration will strive hard to achieve academic excellence as well as provide an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.

The Varsity administrator urged the PG executives to emulate the good works and legacies of the out- gone leadership, noting that the population of students for regular programmes should be able to make them actualize a more massive project.

The Vice-Chancellor advised the new PG Exco to engage in constructive discussions, dialogue and policies that will benefit the rest of the students and move the University forward rather than sabotaging the efforts of Management, just as she warned them against embezzling students' funds.

Earlier, the Dean of Students,  Dr. Anthony Eyang commended the Vice Chancellor for the pivotal role she played in ensuring the completion of the project, saying the project would not have come to fruition without her directives for the quick release of funds from the Student’s development charges.

Also speaking, the outgone President, Post Graduate Government, Comrade John Kujoh Ololo expressed joy for the commissioning and dedication of the Prof Florence Banku Obi PG Secretariat under his watch.

Comrade Ololo who described Prof. Obi as "Madam Projects" and "the talk and do" Vice Chancellor appreciated her for the  quick approval of the release of funds, commitment as well as support towards the project.

In his word, “Mummy you told us when you were laying the foundation stone that this building will be completed during my administration, which looked like a mirage but today, it’s a reality.”

He disclosed that the one-storey building houses five offices at the first floor for the Executive President, Secretary General, Senate President, Chief Judge and General office while the ground floor has a conference Hall for meetings, Senate plenary and a cafeteria to serve as another source of income for the union.
