The University of Calabar Carbon Innovation Centre (UCIC) and the Sustainable Earth Institute at the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom (UK) are set to organize a knowledge exchange and research workshop commencing from November 13--17, 2023.

The workshop which will be held in Plymouth and titled " Global Perspectives On Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation" is geared towards sharing of knowledge, ideas and research on climate change and actions.

The Director of the University of Calabar Carbon Innovation Centre (UCIC), Prof Raphael Offiong in a release said the workshop is timely as it is coming at a time when Nigeria and Cross River, in particular, are heavily impacted by climate change due to its vast rainforest ecosystem and significant carbon sequestration capacity.

Prof Raphael Offiong said in tackling the challenges, both Universities involved in the collaboration will make an effort to identify strategies for reducing carbon emissions in the area.

The partnership according to the UCIC Director is expected to ultimately address climate change and foster sustainability in the region and also open doors for the exchange of ideas, funding opportunities, institutional support for knowledge, technological transfer, and collaborative initiatives concerning student and staff exchange Programmes.

The UCIC delegates to the global workshop will be led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi.

The Director, UCIC, Prof Raphael Offiong, Deputy Director UCIC, Mr Jude Bepeh and Ms Theresa Mbu (Gender Mainstreaming) will accompany the Vice Chancellor to the event.
