The Dean, of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Calabar, Prof Ayi Ayi has said that his dream of repositioning the Faculty for global competitiveness would not have been actualized without the full support of Members of Staff in the Faculty.

Prof. Ayi stated this during the Faculty Board Meeting while delivering his scorecard for the period he has been in the saddle.

He thanked the Faculty board for their massive support, cooperation and solidarity during his time as Dean, adding that, he has enjoyed their full support which contributed immensely to the success of his inaugural lecture.

 

 

The Dean said he embraced the committee system of leadership adopted by the current University administration, adding that, it helped him in working towards the vision of repositioning the faculty as a Centre of Excellence.

Prof Ayi stated that during his tenure as Dean, the faculty successfully hosted a faculty conference which prompted the Publication of online faculty journals and Students' Handwork.

According to him "the production of the handbook has provided a guide for both undergraduate and postgraduate Students. It has also helped the faculty to have full accreditation status of programmes during the accreditation exercise."

As part of measures to boost the internally-generated revenue of the University, the Dean hinted that the Faculty established a paint factory in that regard.

Prof Ayi highlighted some basic needs of the faculty and departments to include comfortable office space for the Dean and HOD of Statistics, lecture theatres, and laboratories amongst others.

The Don stated that the faculty is a research-rich, professional faculty with a global reputation for academic quality, adding that, the dream of the Faculty under his leadership was to establish a Centre of Excellence for Functional Materials and Nanotechnology (CEFMAN).

He hinted that another dream for the faculty was to establish research networking and collaboration for the promotion of eco-friendly materials development and strengthen the interaction with industry and focus on the development of new materials.

The Dean said that the Faculty is poised to become one of the top faculties in UNICAL and the country by the year 2025 by considering the consistent drive for continuous improvement as their core operational strategy.

Prof. Ayi who said the position of the Dean of the faculty would be vacant in March this year said he would soon set machinery in motion for the conduct of a free, fair and credible election to elect a new Dean.
