About Dr. Ude Bassey Obeten

Dr. Ude Obeten worked and consequently, held various positions of responsibilities in many Ministries in Cross River State Government including having served as Project Officer, Cross River State Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme and Free Health Care Scheme (A World Bank Assisted Project on Social Protection). Dr. Ude Bassey Obeten joined the services of the University of Calabar on March 2017 as Lecturer II in the Department of Social Work. He is currently serving as Counsellor in the Psychosocial Counselling Centre of the Department. He holds a Ph,D (2016) and M.Sc. (2008) degrees in Sociology of Development and B. Sc. degree in Social Work (2003). He also holds a Diploma in Social Work (1998), all his degrees and diploma were obtained from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Finally, Dr Obeten holds certificates in both Psychiatry Nursing and General Nursing from the Cross River State School of Psychiatric Nursing and General Nursing, Calabar. He was a participant in the World Bank training on design and implementation of Conditional Cash Transfers in Nigeria. He is a result driven and dedicated Scholar with great passion to promote teaching, academic excellence and community services. He is well experienced in Child Rights and Protection services and Social protection and has served as a lead consultant to UNICEF on Cross River State Child Rights Law and Child Protection Regulations and Policy. Dr Obeten has been teaching, counselling and contributing to the graduation of students in the University. He was the lead facilitator for identification of Master trainers and trainable adults for vocational skills scheme and was in the team of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Community Development in partnership with National Bureau of Statistics that carried out poverty pilot survey of Cross River State, and had equally severed as the Secretary Cross River State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board. He has authored and co-authored number articles in peer review journals. He has also participated in many conferences where he made presentations. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Policy Management and Development and a member, Society for Research and Academic Excellence.
