About Dr. Sidney Kelechi Oparah

Dr Sidney Oparah joined the services of the University of Calabar in 2010 as Lecturer 1 in the Department of Internal Medicine. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2016 in the Department of Internal Medicine, where he also served as the Acting Head of Department between 2014 and 2016. Dr. Sidney K. Oparah holds an MBBS degree and a Postgraduate Medical (FMCP) degree. He has been serving in the Board of Trustees of the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, and in a Clinical Advisory capacity to Shalina Healthcare Pharmaceuticals (Ghana) since 2018. He doubles as an Honorary Consultant Physician/ Neurologist with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. His areas of interests include Clinical neurology, Epileptology, stroke prevention, some aspects of Women`s health, Tropical medicine and Medical education. In the course of his services to the University, he has served in various positions of responsibility including Examinations Officer (2012 – 2014), Faculty of Medicine Representative to the Faculty of Basic Medical Science (2010 – 2014) and in various faculties, college and hospital committees. Outside the University, Dr Oparah served as External Examiner to the Ebonyi State University College of Health Sciences between 2014 and 2015.. Dr Oparah has attended and presented papers in several conferences, workshops, symposia, seminars and other update programmes in his field. He has published several scholarly papers in both local and international peer reviewed academic journals. Dr Sidney Oparah is an outstanding academic who has participated in several local and international research projects. He is serving many Journal Publishers as Reviewer. He has collaborated with many industrialists, medical practitioners and other academics in several clinical and professional projects. These researches and collaborations has taken him to different parts of the world. Dr Oparah has presented talks at different fora and outreach programmes at several times. He is a Fellow of the prestigious National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria; a member of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, African Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Neurology, International League against Epilepsy, World Federation of Neurology and the Nigerian Medical Association, in addition to other academic and professional societies. He is married with children.
