About Prof. Saturday Job Etuk

Professor Saturday Job Etuk was born in Ediene Ikot Ebom, Ekparakwa, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, on 17th June, 1959. He passed his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) with Distinction in 1971 and his West African School Certificate (WASC) in Division One with Distinction in 1978. He had his MB.BCh from the University Of Calabar College Of Medical Sciences in 1985. In 1995 he completed his residency programme and bagged the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He also passed Part 11 Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FMCOG) in 1997. He was awarded the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) in 2002. Professor Etuk started his academic career as Assistant Lecturer/Senior House Officer at the University of Calabar/University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in 1988 and rose through the ranks to become a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist in 1995 in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the sub-specialty of Feto-Maternal Medicine in the University of Calabar in 2005. Professor Etuk had been Acting Head of his Department, 2000 – 2002; Sub-Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, 2002 – 2004; Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, 2009 – 2010; Deputy Provost, College of Medical Sciences, 2008 – 2009 and Provost, College of Medical Sciences 2010 – 2014. He has been Editor, Mary Slessor Journal of Medicine, 2004 – 2016 and Hall Warden, Hall 7, University of Calabar, 2006 – till date.He has served as Externa Examiner to many medical schools including, Nnamdi Azikiwe University College of Health Sciences; College of Health Sciences, University of Port Harcourt; College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus; College of Health Sciences, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State; etc. He has attended many conferences within and outside Nigeria and presented papers. Professor Etuk is an Honorary Chief Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria. He has served as Member, Board of Management, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Calabar (October 2010 - 2014 ); Member, Board of Management, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar (October 2010 - 2014 ); Member, Governing Board of the College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Calabar (October 2010 – September 2014); Member, University of Calabar Graduate School Board (2009 – 2014); Member, Faculty Board of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria 2004 -2014; Member, Residency Training Committee, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria (2005 – 2015); Chairman of Council, Unical Chapel of Redemption Council, University of Calabar, Calabar (2011 – 2014); Member, University of Calabar Governing Council ( April 2013 – April 2017) and Member of Council of the West African College of Surgeons (March 2017 till date).Prof. Etuk has supervised twenty (20) Fellows, two (2) PhDs and one Masters Degrees. Professor Etuk has 87 publications including five (5) book chapters to his credit.He is married and the marriage is blessed with four children and two grandchildren.
