About Dr. Paul Odah Ebiala

Dr. Paul O. Ebiala joined the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar on the 10th of November, 2010. He attended the University of Calabar from where he graduated in 1999 with a 2nd Class (Upper Division) degree in law. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002 after the mandatory Law School programme in Bwari, Abuja. He later obtained the LLM and Ph.D degrees from the same University in 2006 and 2019, respectively, with particular focus on Intellectual Property Law and International Humanitarian Law, respectively. At the undergraduate level, Dr. Ebiala bagged two (2) Awards, namely: Best Graduating Student in the 1999 Law Class, and Best Graduating Student in Commercial Law. In his 11 years with the University so far, he has taught the following Law Courses, namely: Legal Methods, Constitutional Law, Nigerian Legal System, Commercial Law, Banking and Insurance Law, Family Law, Land Law, Oil and Gas Law, the Law of Evidence, Civil Procedure Law and is currently teaching International Humanitarian Law, Intellectual Property Law and Criminal Procedure Law at the undergraduate level and Consumer Protection Law at the post-graduate level. Dr. Ebiala has supervised over 70 students at both the undergraduate and post graduate levels, and has also mentored a number of Young Lawyers and Lecturers. He has attended 18 Nigerian Bar Association Annual Bar Conferences and 3 Law Teachers Conferences, even as he has also organized 2 very successful Bar Weeks in the Calabar Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association when he served the Branch as its Chairman. He was also a member of the Technical Committee on Conference Planning of 2 Annual General Conferences of the NBA in 2013 and 2020. Dr. Ebiala is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association as well as the Nigeria Law Teachers Association. He has published a number of articles in renowned local and international Journals as listed below, and is still researching. He is an adept Bar Man, having served twice as a National Officer of the Nigerian Bar Association spanning 4 years, a Secretary and Chairman of the Calabar Branch of the Association for another 4 years. He is a member of the Rotary International and is a Notary Public for Nigeria and a Chartered Mediator and Conciliator. Dr. Ebiala is an ardent Golfer and belongs to a number of other sporting associations and clubs. His marriage to his lovely wife, Maria, is blessed with 3 lovely children, Paul, Glory and Favour.
