About Prof. Patience Edoho Samson-Akpan

Professor Patience Samson-Akpan started Her nursing career in 1978 at the School of Nursing, Calabar and graduated in 1981 after which she proceeded to the School of Midwifery and graduated in 1982. She had an award of the “best academic student” for the three years in School of Nursing. She completed her professional nursing education at the University of Ibadan in 1988 and specialized in nursing education. Thereafter, she obtained Master's Degree in Public Health in 2002 from University of Calabar, Nigeria. She also studied Health Education and obtained PhD from the same University. Other training programmes attended are as follows: Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI) of ICN in Switzerland, Mentorship, Grant writing and Qualitative Health Research. She started her teaching career with the then Polytechnic Calabar which later became Cross River University of Technology in 1989 where She rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer. She also taught briefly as Senior Lecturer in Akwa Ibom State, Polytechnic before she joined the services of the University of Calabar in 2005 as Lecturer 1. She is currently a Professor of Nursing in the Department of Nursing Science, University of Calabar, Nigeria. She was inducted as a “Fellow of West African College of Nursing” in 2009. She has also authored 1 book, 4 book chapters and published 76 articles in local and international journals including refereed conference proceedings. She has attended 68 international and local conferences and has presented 61 academic papers. Her research interests are in Health promotion/Education and Nursing in which she has completed 92 researches. The Marriage is blessed with many children. She loves reading, cooking, jogging and stands for excellence.
