About Dr. Patience Antigha Akpan

Dr. Patience Antigha Akpan is a Medical Laboratory Scientist with Haematology and Blood transfusion specialty. Following her Internship and Youth Service as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, she joined the service of the University of Calabar as a Graduate Assistant in 2008. She was promoted to the rank of Lecturer I in Haematology and Blood Transfusion Unit, Department of Medical Laboratory Science in 2017. Dr. Akpan holds a B.MLS degree in Haematology and Blood Group Serology (2005), M.Sc. in Haematology (2012) and Ph.D degrees in Blood Physiology (2017), all from University of Calabar. Research interests include Haematological and immunological interactions associated with infections. She has been teaching, researching and supervising/mentoring students both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Dr Akpan has published several articles in reputable local and international peer reviewed journals. She has been attending local and international conferences, workshops, seminars and symposia in her area where she made presentations. among others. She has been a recipient of Tetfund institution-based research grant, several travel awards and distinctions including being the best graduating student at undergraduate level. Dr. Akpan is a member of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Nigeria Biological Safety Association, Physiologic Society of Nigeria and International Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis. She is happily married.
