About Dr. Ogbuagu Udensi Ugorji

Dr Udensi, O. Ugorji is an erudite teacher and researcher born November 2, 1976 and a native of Eziukwu Nkagbogo, Ekoli Edda, Afikpo South LGA of Ebonyi State. He is happily married (Mrs. Vivian, O. Ugorji) with 4 wonderful children. He was employed in the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria on March 13, 2006 and had been engaged in teaching and research for the past 12 years. He obtained FSLC and SSCE in Egbebu Central and Ekoli/Nguzu Technical Secondary Schools, respectively both in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State between 1987-1993.  He obtained B.Sc Hons. (Biology) (1996-2000), M.Sc. (2004-2006) and Ph.D (2006-2010) degrees in Plant Biotechnology, all in the University of Calabar.Udensi, O. Ugorji Ph.D. has bagged many honors within the education circle to show the level of scholarship, some of which are, Award of Excellence, Department of Genetics/Biotechnology, University of Calabar (2008) Award of Honor, State Technical Education Board, CRS (2012), Professional Service Award, Rotaract club of Hilltop, calabar, RI District 9140, Nigeria (2013), Lifetime Academic Award, JETS- CLUB (2013) and Award of Excellence, Best Lecturer in Faculty of Science, Student Union Government, UNICAL (2015). This astute researcher is ranked among the top 500 Nigerian scientists in Nigerian institutions since 2015 till date (http://www.webometrics.info /en/node/99). Udensi, O. Ugorji Ph.D is a teacher to both undergraduate and post- graduate students in many courses, including but not limited to the following: General Biology, Genetics,  Molecular Biology,  Biostatistics, Biometrical Genetics, Principles of Biotechnology in the undergraduate levels and Advanced Molecular Biology, ICT and Research Methodology/Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Plant Genetics Resource Management and Utilization, Radiation Genetics, Research Techniques in Biotechnology, etc. in the post- graduate level.He has reviewed many journal articles in reputable journals such a Global Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences, International Journal of Experimental Agriculture, etc. Dr. Ogbuagu Udensi Ugorji has successfully supervised and graduated more than 65 undergraduate students and currently 8 undergraduate students are under his supervision and mentorship. Additionally, he has graduated 2 post-graduate students (M.Sc.) and papers published in high impact factor journals while the sequence data generated from one of the student’s thesis is assigning of accession number in the NCBI database. He is supervising/mentoring 2 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D. students in the field of Plant Biotechnology (Plant Genetic Resource Management/Utilization and Genomics).Dr. Udensi has attended many learned conferences nationally and internationally such as Hosted Scientist, Global Forum for Innovation in Agriculture (GFIA) Abu Dhabi, UAE. He has also been secretary and member of Local Organizing Committee (LOC) charged with the responsibility of organizing conferences for Genetics Society of Nigerian (GSN) (2012), and Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN) (2015).Dr. Udensi, O. Ugorji  is majorly a legume researcher, especially pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. ), cowpea, (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Wdlp), winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) DC.) etc. He is currently undertaking the following research projects: Ribulose–bisphosphate carboxylase (rbcl) gene-based genetic profiling of pigeon pea and cowpea obtained from ICRISAT, IITA as well as accessions grown in Nigeria.   He is engaged in research works on genomics, the organisms notwithstanding.Dr. Udensi O. Ugorji is currently establishing research linkages with colleagues in Kenya, (Council for Scientific and Industries Research-Savannah Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR - SAR), Ghana ((IITA), Genetic Resource Unit in ICRISAT, Niger. He is a member of learned societies including Genetics Society of Nigeria (GSN), Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN), Society for Underutilized Legumes (SUL), Nigeria.Udensi, O. Ugorji Ph.D is a scholar of great impute and has published more 60 journal articles in learned journals across the globe.
