About Mr. Odey Clarence Odey

Clarence Odey holds a B.Ed (2nd Class Upper Hons.) and M.Ed with distinction both in Social Science from the University of Calabar. He is currently doing a Ph.D programme in Peace & Conflict studies in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Odey’s research interests include Social Studies Education, Peace Education, Governance, Nation-Building and Institution-Building. He has attended several local and few foreign conferences and published high quality research papers in both foreign and local peer-reviewed, high impact factor journals. Odey is a member of such professional bodies as Social Studies and Civic Educators’ Association of Nigeria (SOSCEAN), Nigeria Political Science Association (NPSA), Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI) Nigeria Chapter and Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). Clarence Odey is currently the Staff Advisor, Social Science Education Students’ Association (SSESA), an organisation which awarded him, before his appointment as Staff Advisor, “Award of Excellent Contributions to Educational Advancement”. Odey, who hopes to become a world class leader in scholarship and research in the fields of Education and the Social Studies specifically in Peace Education, Governance and Politics, has been a Guest Speaker at the National Association of Yala Local Government Students’ Association Orientation Programme for Freshmen at UNICAL with a paper titled “Welcome to the Ivory Tower: A roadmap to traversing the mystifying paths of the University” in April, 2019; Guest Speaker at the Yala Postgraduate Students’ Association’s Public Lecture held at Cross River State University of Technology, Calabar in May 2019 with a paper titled “Climbing the Ivory Tower: The 21st Century Approach to Academic Success in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.” Other community services include: Ad Hoc Ward Collation Officer with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra and Cross River States from 2018 to date; President of Youth Department, Assemblies of God Church, 19 Uwanse Street, Calabar, Cross River State from 2018 to date; Sunday School Teacher (Children Department) Assemblies of God Church, 19 Uwanse Street, Calabar, Cross River State from 2016 to date; President, Yala Postgraduate Students’ Association, UNICAL from 2017 to date; Financial Secretary/ Almanac Committee Chairman, Cross River State Post-graduate Students’ Association, UNICAL (2015–2017). Among Odey’s major contributions to scholarship are the following academic works: B.Ed Project (March, 2012): Family background and Social Studies students’ academic achievement in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria; and M.Ed Thesis (October, 2016): Socio-political factors and government delivery of educational services in Cross River State, Nigeria supervised by Professor Donald Bette Enu.
