About Dr. Obaji Etaba Obaji Akpet

Dr. Obaji Etaba Obaji Akpet is a Medical Doctor and Public Health/Community Physician (FSLC, SSCE, B.M; B.Ch.; FMCPH.), a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He is currently a Lecturer 1 and Chief Honorary Consultant in The Department of Community Medicine, University of Calabar, Calabar and The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria, respectively. He joined the services The University of Calabar in August, 2011 and had held the following Positions: Departmental Exams Officer (2011 to 2014), Ag. HOD (2014 to 2016) Dr. Akpet’s subspecialty is Community Medicine with research interest in the following areas: Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control; Reproductive Health Epidemiology with passion for injection safety practices in healthcare facilities. He is involved in carrying out health promotion activities in the community (Medical Outreaches) in the aspect of Personal and environmental hygiene, healthy living by encouraging well persons to go for early screening/checkup in health facilities as well as advocating for the establishment of Well Person’s Clinics in all healthcare facilities. He is also the involved in the training and supervision of resident doctors and undergraduate students in the Department of Community Medicine University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and University of Calabar, as well as the training of other health care workers/teachers in public schools on Infection Prevention and Control (including environmental/hand hygiene and Covid-19 prevention strategies). Dr. Akpet is a devoted Christian, a Ruling Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. He is married and blessed with three lovely children.
