About Prof. Lucas Olusegun Ogunjimi

Ogunjimi Lucas Olusegun is a Professor of Human Kinetics and Health Education. He is a specialist in Athletic Training and Health Education. He is married with children; He joined the services of the University as a Faculty Staff in the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, on the 3rd of February 1992. He has served as Head of Department (Vocational and Special Education) 2005 to 2007; he served as the Examination Officer and coordinated various activities concerning the review of curriculum that was finally approved by the University Senate for Human Kinetics and Health Education (Undergraduate programme) as well as the establishment of an autonomous Department for the programme. He equally coordinated various activities that led to the Senate approval of Graduate programmes for Human Kinetics and Health Education. He got elected as the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Education: 2002 to 2003, and the Diretor of Sandwich Programmes 2003 t0 2005. He served as Chairman of the Faculty of Education Graduate Board 2010-2016, the Chairman of Graduate School Theses and Results Vetting Committee, Member of Qualifying Examination and Admission Committee, as well as Member of Committee on External Linkage, Research and Publications of the Graduate school, University of Calabar. 


Professor Ogunjimi Lucas Olusegun has been actively involved in the training of Coaches and Sports Managers in Nigeria since 1992. He obtained a Level 2 Anthropometrics’ License (Technician Full Profile) of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) in 2004. He became a National Technical Official (NTO) of the IAAF in the year 2000, a Lecturer 1 for Technical Official Education and Certification System (TOECS) of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) in 2007. He is the first Nigerian to obtain the International Technical Official (ITO) License of the IAAF (African panel). He is currently a Technical Officials training Consultant to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Confederation African Athletics (CAA) and IAAF. He is currently an International Technical Official (ITO) of the confederation of African Athletics (CAA) and served as Technical Delegate to the 2011 ECOWAS Games in Ivory Coast as well as 2016 CAA Region 2 – ECOWAS Junior Championship in Banjul, Gambia. 


Professor Ogunjimi, Lucas Olusegun is currently the only Anglophone West African on the IAAF African panel of International Technical officials (ITO).  He has served as appointed ITO by CAA at Senior African Championships in Port Novo, Benin Republic in 2012, Marakech in Morocco 2014, and Durban in South Africa 2016. He has been serving as the Meeting Manager at major Athletics Competition organized by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) since 2008. He is well known within and among his ITO colleagues in Africa as the Sport Ambassador – Professor of the University of Calabar, Calabar Nigeria. He officiated at the topmost level (Premier League) of Nigerian Football as a Grade One Referee 1998 to 2005, and has been serving the Nigerian Football Federation as Match Commisioner (Director) and Referees’ Assessor since 2005 till date. 


Professor Ogunjimi Lucas Olusegun is a member of many learned societies; among these are Nigeria Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation-Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD), International Council for Sports Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (ICHPER-SD), Nigerian Association for Sports Science and Medicine (NASSM), Nigerian School Health Association (NSHA). He has attended more than thirty eight conferences in Nigeria Africa, and Europe where he presented scholarly papers. He has over fifty-six publications in Local and International journals, and edited Conference proceedings. He has supervised more than sixteen Ph.D and fourteen Masters Theses. He is currently an external Examiner (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes) to five different Universities and also, Professorial Assessor to some of the Universities in Nigeria.  Professor Ogunjimi Lucas Olusegun is a member of “Outward Bound” International’.
