About Dr. Joy Eko Atu

Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Eko Atu was born on the 10th day of November 1976. She had her Primary School Education in Wase, Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, specifically (Ugwan Kuyambana Primary School, Ugwan Galadima Primary School and Ugwan Malam Adama Primary School). Her Post Primary Education were undertaken in Government Secondary School Wase, Plateau State (JSS1- SS1) and Community Secondary School Itigidi ( SS2- SS3). Her periodic transfer of schools was occasioned by the frequent transfer of her parents who were teachers at the various school. Having done with her Primary and Secondary Education, her quest for learning led her to the prestigious University of Calabar where she graduated with an honours degree in Geography and regional planning in 1998. On completion of the Mandatory Youth Service Year in 2000, Dr Atu sought and got admission into her alma mater department and University to study Environmental Resource Management and Planning. On the 16th of December 2010 she defended her multidisciplinary Ph.D thesis titled “Sprawl Impacts on Biodiversity in Peripheral Agricultural Lands in Calabar” earning a Ph.D. degree in Geography & Environmental Science (Biogeography and Biodiversity Conservation). Dr. Atu has held several positions of responsibilities in the University of Calabar such as Registration officers EPM Year II 2006 – 2008, Dept. Board Secretary 2007 – 2009, Exams officer EPM NUC 2009 – 2012, Fieldwork coordinator, EPM coordinator & she currently is the pioneer Head of Dept. of Estate mgt. & Valuation Faculty off Environmental Science. She is an innovative lecturer, an astute research that heap supervised & graduated students at the undergraduate & postgraduate level. She has done collaborative work with State, National & International Organisation such as CRGIS, UNREDD+.
