Mr. Ironbar was employed in the Government Coastal Agency that was later renamed National Clearing and Forwarding Agency, Apapa, Lagos, a Department in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Lagos in 1966 as a Clerical Officer. He rose to the rank of a Director before his retirement from service in 2001. He joined the services of the University of Calabar on a Contract Appointment as an Assistant Research Fellow in the Institute of Public Policy and Administration on the 17th November, 2014. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Port and Shipping Administration from the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology, Cardiff, United Kingdom (1984). Mr Ironbar also holds a non-thesis masters and M.Sc. degrees in Policy and Administrative Studies obtained from the University of Calabar in 2012 and 2018 respectively. Mr Ironbar has been involved in the teaching of development administration, local government administration in Nigeria, personnel management and constitutional and administrative Law to Diploma students in the Institute of Public Policy and Administration. He was a member of the LOC of the IPPA International Seminar that was held in the University of Calabar between November 8-9, 2016. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport, London. Mr Ironbar has been awarded fellow by many professional associations including Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (FCAI) in Public Administration (2010), Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria, FCPA (2017) and Institute of Human and Natural Resources of Nigeria (2018).
