About Prof. Imo Jackson Ekpoh

.Prof. Imo Jackson Ekpoh hails from Ikot Mbong in ONNA Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He started his primary education in Qua Iboe Church Primary School, Atiamkpat, Onna, and completed same in Salvation Army Primary School, Ikot Ebo, Etinan. He had his secondary education in the then Qua Iboe Mission Secondary School, Etinan (now Etinan Institute), before enrolling for the A- Level Certificate in the then Science School, Uyo. Prof. Ekpoh was among the pioneer students that started the University of Calabar in 1976. He was enrolled for the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Geography and Regional Planning. After a 4-year course of study, he graduated in 1980 in the Second Class, Upper Division, distinguishing himself as the best student in the 1980-Geography-Graduating-Class. With this top position, he was awarded Prof. R. K. Udo’s Prize in Geography, as well as, the University of Calabar Foundation Scholarship, to pursue higher degree in Geography. After successfully completing the mandatory NYSC Scheme between August 1980 and July 1981 in Kontagora, Niger State, Prof. Ekpoh returned to the University of Calabar to pursue the Master of Science (M. Sc) degree in Tropical Geomorphology. He graduated in December 1983 and was subsequently offered employment as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, University of Calabar in January 1984. After teaching for 3 years plus, he won the highly competitive and prestigious Commonwealth Academic Staff Scholarship in 1988 to pursue the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He completed the programme in 1991, with specialization in Applied Climatology. As a University teacher, Prof. Ekpoh has published over 50 scholarly works in International and Local Journals, Books, edited Book Chapters, Conference Proceedings and Monographs. He has successfully supervised 14 PhDs and 16 MScs, and very actively engaged in mentoring junior academics. He is a holder of numerous Prizes and Awards, and has delivered numerous public lectures on Climate Change and Society to various audiences including: The Environmental Management Association of Nigeria (EMAN), Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, and the defunct NEPA. He is an expert in Climate Change and Environmental Management and has served as the Scientific Consultant to the popular programme “Environment” on Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) up to the present. Prof. Ekpoh is married to Dr. (Mrs) Uduak Imo Ekpoh, and they have three children: Aidee, Cristo and Alex.
