About Dr. Euphoria Chimuanya Akwiwu

Dr. Euphoria Chimuanya Akwiwu has been in the employment list of the University of Calabar, Nigeria since 2010 as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. She received her Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree from Imo State University, Owerri in 2003 and proceeded to University of Calabar where she obtained both M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Haematology and Chemical Pathology in 2012 and 2015 respectively. Her research interests are mainly public health oriented including, among others, infectious diseases, haemoglobinopathies and occupational health. Dr Euphoria was converted to Lecturer 1 in 2016. She has been teaching, researching, mentoring and contributing to the growth of the University. Dr. Akwiwu was a recipient of the University of Calabar Conference/Workshop attendance grants in 2011 and 2013. Also, she has benefitted from similar grants from Nigeria Biological Safety Association in 2016 and Women in Science without Borders (2018). Besides, she has attended many local and international conferences, workshops, seminars and symposia where she has presented papers in both oral and poster session. She has successfully supervised and co-supervised many graduate students. Dr. Euphoria C. Akwiwu currently has to her credit over twenty-three publications in peer-reviewed local and international journals. Dr Euphoria has served as Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences Representative to Faculty of Education (2018 till date). She is a member of many professional associations including Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Haematology and Blood Transfusion Scientists Society of Nigeria, International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Women in Science without Borders and Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World. She also engages in various outreach programmes particularly those on voluntary counselling and testing for HIV infection, voluntary blood donation, occupational health and campaign for haemoglobin type awareness.
