About Dr. Ekanem Abasiekong Etuk


I am a senior lecturer, a Socio-economic consultant and an Agricultural Development and Policy expert in the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Calabar. Over the years, I have taught courses in all the subject areas of Agricultural Economics and also some aspect of general Agriculture at the undergraduate level. However, my main research interest and subject area at the graduate level is Agricultural Development and Policy with particular interests in the areas of poverty, food security, social protection and inclusion. I am a recipient of the Schweisfurth Foundation/Support Africa International merit award for research-2005. I have been a research supervisor to undergraduate and graduate students and have successfully supervised four MSc students and co-supervised two PhD students. In 2012, I received the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) award for a short course in Local Economic Development organized by the Center for Development Innovation (CDI), Wageningen University and Research. I am passionate about evidence based research as a tool in the policy process. I have consulted for several public, private and government institutions both nationally and internationally in the areas of environmental impact assessment (socio-economics) and Agricultural programme monitoring and evaluation. I am familiar with a wide range of Survey, quantitative and qualitative approaches to data gathering and analysis, and can use the following software – STATA, E-VIEWS, SPSS, and R
