About Mr. Edim Ndifon Obim

My name is Edim Ndifon Obim, born on 3rd April, 1958 at Akparabong in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. I am a Senior Lecturer and Staff Academic Adviser in the Department of Banking and Finance, University of Calabar. Prior to my appointment as a lecturer in 2013, I had worked for many years in the banking industry and held many executive positions. I was the founding manager of Unical Community Bank and Pioneer MD/CEO of Unical Microfinance Bank. I had served as State Chairman of the National Association of Microfinance Banks, Cross River State Chapter till 2012. I am also a Pastor and Minister of the Gospel. I hold a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Education/Economics as well as PGDM, MBA and M.Sc (Finance) degrees. I am currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Banking and Finance at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Rotary International and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (FCMA) and the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (FSM). I have also earned many awards of honour in course of my working life including: Excellent Service Award from the Institute of Economic Management of Nigeria (2005), Nigerian Merit Gold Award for Productivity (2009), Best Microfinance Bank MD/CEO of the year Award (2009), and the Leadership Distinction Award for Microfinance Banks in South–South (2010). I teach and supervise Undergraduate and Post-graduate (M.Sc) students. The Undergraduate courses I teach include: Financial Management, Project Evaluation & Analysis, Entrepreneurial Development, Business Statistics, Banking Methods & Processes, and Research Project Supervision. The Post-graduate (M.Sc) Courses Include: Theory of Financial Intermediation, International Banking & Finance, Seminars Supervision and M.Sc Theses Supervision. I equally Supervise DBA Research Projects /Final Essays for Diploma students in Business Administration. I have more than fifteen Publications in Local and International Journals and have co-authored two textbooks: Nigerian Financial Environment, and Microfinance Practice and Growth of Small Businesses in Nigeria. I attended and made a power-point paper presentation at the 8th International Conference on Accounting and Finance Research Association (AFRA) in 2018. I am also collaborating with other colleagues in various research activities both in the University of Calabar and other Nigerian Universities, in addition to my Ph.D dissertation. I am happily married with children.
