About Dr. Uduak Effiong Williams

Dr. Uduak Williams is a Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Honorary Consultant Neurologist at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar. He joined the University of Calabar as a Lecturer 1 in August, 2011. Uduak studied Medicine at the University of Calabar and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital from where he graduated in 1999. He was trained in Internal Medicine and Neurology at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar and University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. He completed his specialist training in Medicine and Neurology in 2011. He is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in the Neurology subspecialty. He also holds a M.Sc. degree in Clinical Neurology obtained from Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2014. Dr Williams has served in the University in other capacities including Examinations Officer (2018-2020) and Acting Head of Department of Internal Medicine (2020 to date). He is a beneficiary of several travel grants including the World Parkinson Coalition grant to attend the World Parkinson Congress in Glasgow, Scotland in 2010; the TETFUND grant to attend the European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS) in Stockholm, Sweden in 2012 and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) grant to attend the summer school for young neurologist in Lisbon, Portugal in 2016. His key interests are in Movement Disorders, NeuroAIDS, General Neurology, Cerebrovascular disease, and Functional disorders in Neurology. He runs a specialist inpatient facility for the evaluation and management of movement disorders and general neurological disorders in adults. He is involved in the training and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees. He is currently supervising two doctors in their postgraduate programme. He is skillful in finding solutions to challenges, with an intense drive for research and teaching. His current research is on aspects of cognitive dysfunction and mood disorders in patients with chronic medical diseases and control of the risk factors for Non-communicable Disease (NCDs). He is a member of several professional bodies including Nigerian society of Neurological Sciences (NSNS), Pan African Association of Neurology Societies (PAANS), World Federation of Neurology (WFN), International Movement Disorder Society (MDS), World Stroke organization (WSO), International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA). He has held several positions both as a Resident Doctor and Consultant/Lecturer. He is a reviewer to several medical journals. He has authored and co-authored several publications in learned and peer-review local and international journals.
