About Dr. Chidi John Okafor

Dr. Chidi Okafor is the acting Head of Department. He joined the university on the 11th of January 2013. Prior to this, he worked as a consultant psychiatrist with the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Calabar. He is a fellow of the National Postgraduate College of Nigeria. Dr. Okafor has won some travel grants and scholarships including travel grant prize from The West African Bioethics Training Program to attend an international conference on ethics and genomic research; scholarship from the Office of Human Research Administration, Harvard School of Public Health, MA – USA to attend a workshop on Ethical Issues in Global Health Research and scholarship from Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) to attend Advancing Ethical Research Conference held at Hynes Convention Center Boston, MA – USA on November 2013. His research projects are on culture-bound somatic symptoms and addiction psychiatry.  He is a member of several professional bodies including: Nigerian Medical Association, medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, and American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.
