About Dr. Chidi Okafor

Dr Chidi Okafor is the acting Head of Department. He joined the university on the 11th January 2013. Prior to this, he worked as a consultant psychiatrist with the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Calabar. He is a fellow of the National Postgraduate College of Nigeria. Dr Okafor has won some travel grants and scholarship including: travel grant prize from The West African Bioethics Training Program to attend international conference on ethics and genomic research; scholarship from the Office of Human Research Administration, Harvard School of Public Health, MA – USA to attend a workshop on Ethical Issues in Global Health Research and scholarship from Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) to attend Advancing Ethical Research Conference held at Hynes Convention Center Boston, MA – USA on November 2013. His research projects are on culture bound somatic symptoms and addiction psychiatry.  He is a member of several professional bodies including: Nigerian Medical Association, medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria and American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.
