About Prof. Cecilia Olunwa Ekwueme

PROF. CECILIA OLUNWA EKWUEME is a Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Calabar. Born at Uwani Enugu into the family of late Matthew and Mary Ugwu of Ovoko-Agu, Cecilia had her primary education at St Stephen Primary School, Ovoko-Agu (1971-77); Secondary School at Urban Girls’ Secondary School, Nsukka (1978-82); First and second degrees at University of Calabar (B.Sc. Ed Mathematics and M.Ed Test and Measurement: 1987 and 1999 respectively); Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, 2006. She also had a Diploma in Computer Studies in 2000. She joined the University of Calabar as an Assistant lecturer in January 2001 and she is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Calabar. A Mathematics Education scholar who has written numerous research articles in renowned professional journals both within and outside the country. She has published over sixty-three mathematics-related papers in scholarly journals. She has also written some textbooks in mathematics education and traveled wide (within and outside the country). She had taught mathematics concepts and methodology at both secondary and university levels for over 28 years now. She also belongs to six local and international professional associations. She has also written four books on methodology in mathematics education, History, and the fun of mathematics. Her research interest includes error analysis in mathematics education, methodology in mathematics, ethnomathematics, and curriculum issues. She has successfully supervised over twenty-six masters and eighteen Ph.D. students. She has held numerous positions in the school notably Pioneer Head of Department of Science Education, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education, course coordinator, Examinations Officer, Editor-in-chief of Faculty of Education Journal, Editor of Global Journal of Educational Research, and have served in numerous committees. She is a proficient and dedicated teacher who is so much in love with Mathematics Education. She is happily married to Prof. Barth N. Ekwueme with lovely children and grandchildren.
