Prof. Bassey Ephraim is a reputable and certified Geologist, majoring in the areas of Petrology, Geochemistry and Environmental/Exploration Geology. He is currently a lecturer, Researcher and Consultant with the University of Calabar, Nigeria. His teaching and research interests include geothermometry, geobarometry and evaluation of P-T conditions of formation of Basement rocks; geochemistry and characterization of basement rocks; investigation of granulites and related rocks, and economic appraisal of mineral deposits, especially in southern Nigeria. He also has vested interests in researches of environmental/geo-hazard relevance, and was actively involved in the World Bank Assisted – Nigeria Erosion & Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) funded research on monitoring and evaluation baseline survey for Itate-Okuku Gully Erosion Site, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Prof. Ephraim is currently working on mineral chemistry evaluation and geothermobarometric investigations of granitic and migmatitic rocks of Northern Obudu area, Southeastern Nigeria. Prof. Ephraim commenced his academic career in the then Anambra State University of Science and Technology, where he made giant strides and immense contributions toward the growth of the then New University. He later had a short stay at the Niger Delta University, Amassoma – Bayelsa State. In 2008, he took up Appointment as Lecturer I in the Department of Geology of the University of Calabar. He was promoted to the rank of professor in 2018. Prof. Bassey Ephraim holds a Bachelor of Science degree Geology from University of Calabar and a Master of Science degree in Mineral Exploration from University of Ibadan. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Petrology & Geochemistry, obtained from the University of Calabar, in 2006. Prof. Ephraim has successfully supervised/mentored and co-supervised many B.Sc., PGD, M.Sc. and Ph.D students, and currently has a myriad of postgraduate and undergraduate students under his tutelage/supervision. He has attended many conferences, Seminars, workshops and other scientific meetings within and outside Nigeria. So far, he has presented nine conference papers, and has to his credit, over thirty published articles in peer reviewed local and international journals. In his academic vocation, Prof. Ephraim collaborates actively with researchers from within and outside Nigeria. Prof. Ephraim has served many learned academic journals including the Earth Science Research Journal, Indian Journal of Earth Science, Journal of Mining and Geology, Tropical Journal of Applied and Natural Science, etc., as peer reviewer. He was the an Editorial Assistant to the Journal of Mining and Geology between 1994 and 2013, and was part of the Editorial Team that produced the Program and Book of Abstract of the 34th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, Ife’98.
