About Dr. Alexander Immaanyikwa Ikeuba

Dr. Alexander Immaanyikwa Ikeuba joined the University of Calabar in 2011 as a lecturer in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences. He holds a First class Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Hons. degree in Chemistry from University of Jos, Nigeria. During his Bachelor’s degree programme he won the “Exxon Mobil undergraduate scholarship” award which he enjoyed as an undergraduate. Upon graduation from the university of Jos in 2009 he received three meritorious convocation awards, namely;(1) Chancellors Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student (2) University of Jos Prize For the Best Graduating Student from the Faculty of Natural Science (3) Sir Livinus Igwemezie Prize for the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Chemistry. In 2012, he obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Chemistry from the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, University of Calabar. His master’s degree thesis was focused on developing eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors for the protection of mild steel in various media. He graduated with a distinction and was the best graduating student in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry. He later proceeded to the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), Beijing, China where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 2019. His Doctorate research was focused on the role and dissolution mechanism of intermetallic phases in different series of Aluminum alloys. He was a beneficiary of both the Chinese government scholarship (CSC) and the Institute of Metal Research-Chinese academy of sciences (IMR-CAS) scholarship during his Ph.D studies. His outstanding performance during his program in UCAS attracted a number of meritorious awards amongst which are (1) Prestigious Shi Changxu Scholarship award 2019; http://www.gs.imr.ac.cn/Html/xinwen/tongzhi/4344.html (2) Excellent IMR students award 2018 (3) 2017 Excellent mid-term evaluation award; http://www.gs.imr.ac.cn/plus/view.php?aid=3926 (4)2017-2018 academic year outstanding student award; http://www.gs.imr.ac.cn/plus/view.php?aid=4067 Currently, he has over 30 scientific publications in both local and international peer reviewed journals.
