About Dr. Alberta David Nsemo

Dr. Alberta David Nsemo was employed by the University of Calabar as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Nursing Science in 2008, where she is serving till date. She rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer in October 2017. She holds a Ph.D in Medical Sociology (2010) from University of Calabar, Calabar, and another Ph.D in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatology (2017) from University of The Western Cape, South Africa. She is a Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife and Registered Midwife Educator with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Her main areas of specialisation are Midwifery and Medical Sociology. Since joining the University, she has been teaching and contributing to the graduation of under and post graduate students in the University. She has successfully supervised and co-supervised over five graduate students. Dr Nsemo is a beneficiary of many grants and fellowships including the 2013 TETFUND grant to study in South Africa, NUFFIC scholarship for short course in the Netherlands (2011) and many others. Dr Alberta Nsemo has published over thirty peer review journal articles spread across both local and international journals. She has also attended over sixty local and international conferences and workshops where she made presentations in some. Dr Nsemo was awarded fellow of the Institute of Policy Management Development (2018) and West African College of Nursing (2007). She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and Industrial Administration of Nigeria. Dr. Alberta Nsemo has participated in over ten health outreach programmes on health promotions and awareness campaigns within her various professional organizations. She was a member of the mapping of Youth Resource Centers in Cross River State in 2010. She also participated in UNICEF-sponsored Participatory Action Research on Youth Vulnerability to HIV/AIDS in Calabar Municipality, Calabar South & Akpabuyo Local Government Areas of Cross River State between August 10 – 14, 2009. She is a member of the Anboard Altranais (Overseas Nursing Registration Board., Dublin), Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives and many others. She is currently working on mandatory continuing professional development programme in Cross River State. She is married with children.
