About Mr. Akah Augustine Ugar

Dr, Akah, Augustine Ugar is an Assistant Lecturer and a Researcher in Public Policy, Security Studies and Ethno-territorial Conflict in the Department of Public Administration, University of Calabar, Nigeria. He is currently studying for a second PhD at the Institute of International Political Sociology, University of Kiel, Germany. He obtained his first PhD in Public Policy at the University of Calabar, Nigeria (2021) after an excellent MSc degree in Public Policy at the University of Calabar (2018), where he achieved straight As in all the courses. In 2015, he completed his BSc in Public Policy/Administrative Studies, emerging overall best graduating student in the Department of Public Administration. He joined the services of the University of Calabar in 2017 as a Graduate Assistant and rose through the rank to Assistant Lecturer in 2019. Augustine has been teaching and researching in the Department. He has served the University in several capacities, including Departmental Timetable Officer, Students Adviser, and Member of different committees. He has represented the University in 16 countries; he has visited over 62 universities worldwide for Pan-Africa and World Universities Debate Championships and other academic engagements. Dr Akah has contributed to the graduation of undergraduate students. He has to date, supervised and co-supervised over twelve students. Dr Akah has authored and co-authored over ten publications spread across both local and international peer-review journals with good indexing and impact factor. He has also presented many scholarly papers at local and international conferences, including the German-American Conference held at Harvard University, Africa-Europe Security Conference in Brussels and the International Conference on Ethno-Religious Conflict in New York; he has also served as lead speaker at several fora. Dr Akah is a certified international conflict mediator, completing the mediation course organized by ICERM in collaboration with United Nations Economic and Social Council. He is a recipient of 22 outstanding leadership, debate, advocacy and community impact awards and four scholarships/research grants, including the Akin Benson Odumakinde (ABO, 2016) MSc Scholarship, the German Academic Exchange Scholarship (DAAD, 2019) and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF, 2020) Overseas PhD Scholarship. He also won the Face of Impact Young Researcher Award. In 2022, he became the first Nigerian to receive the Intergenerational Justice Prize (IJP) jointly awarded by the London Intergenerational Foundation and the Stuttgart-Based Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations. He is a member of many professional associations, including the Nigerian Political Science Association, the International Political Association, the International Conflict Mediation Centre, and many others. To date, Dr Akah is the Representative of the Kiel University Doctoral Council, Founder of the Rutine Initiative, Founder of the African-German Scholars Association, Co-founder of Academic Elites and Pioneer member of the Scholars Forum. He is a Consultant to the ICERM Living Together Movement on Peace and Conflict Issues in Africa. He is a devoted Christian and happily.
