About Prof. Abraham Ngueikyor Gyuse

He graduated from the University of Jos in 1990 with the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (BMBCh). After which he proceeded to the General Hospital (now Federal Medical Centre) Makurdi for the pre-registration Housemanship completing in 1991. Then went on to undertake the compulsory National Youth Service in Kebbi state as the pioneer set of Kebbi Corpers following its creation from Sokoto state. He successfully served the nation at the Bunza Local government PHC which earned him the Local Government Award and recognition. Following discharge from the NYSC scheme, he worked briefly as a Medical Officer notably in Our lady of Apostles Hospital Jos and later enrolled into the Family Medicine Residency Program of the renowned ECWA Evangel (Jankwano) Hospital, Jos which is now the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos completing the Residency program in 2004 with the award of the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Family Medicine (FMCGP). The quest for academic excellence took him to the University of Calabar where he assumed duty in June 2005 as Lecturer I in Family Medicine. He has steadily risen through successive ranks and was promoted to the rank of Professor of Family Medicine with specialization in Social & Behavioural Medicine in October 2016. He is also a Chief Consultant Family Physician with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar where he undertakes Postgraduate Residency Training in Family Medicine. His Clinical Research interest is in Social & Behavioural Medicine but also other areas of medicine as relevant to the family with the patient at the centre, with over thirty (30) scholarly papers in reputable local and International Scientific Journals. He is also a reviewer for several local and international scientific journals. Previous Positions Held: this include Acting Head of Department (2006 – 2010) University of Calabar and UCTH, Director of Research & Training Family Medicine Residency Program UCTH (2012 – 2014). He has been an Examiner in Family Medicine with the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria from 2008 till date. Faculty Board Member of the Faculty of Family Medicine of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (2011 – 2014). Currently the Faculty Board Secretary & Chief Examiner for the Faculty of Family Medicine in the same National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (2015 till date). This also include the responsibility of organizing and coordinating Training in the Faculty of Family Medicine.
