Dr. Young Bassey Ibiang
DepartmentGenetics and Biotechnology
DesignationLecturer II
EmailDr. Young B. Ibiang conducts research on the effects of environmental stressors such as pesticides and heavy metals on plants and animals and how their toxicity could be mitigated by the application of safe and ecofriendly protocols, such as microbe inoculation, amongst others. He is a staff of the University of Calabar, from 2012 – present. He attended 5th Avenue Primary School, Festac Town, Lagos, Nigeria (1987-1992), Police Secondary School, Calabar, Nigeria (1992-1998), University of Calabar, Dept. of Genetics and Biotechnology, (2003 - 2007) graduating with a Bachelors degree, Graduate School, University of Calabar, (2010 – 2014) graduating with a Masters degree, and Graduate School of Horticulture, Chiba University, Japan (2015 - 2018) where he obtained his doctorate, on a full scholarship from the Government of Japan (MEXT). He was also offered a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at Chiba University. His University teaching includes: Introductory Biology; Introductory Genetics and Biotechnology; Introductory Ecology; General Physiology; Biological Techniques; Environmental Pollution and Toxicology; Agricultural Biotechnology; Biometry; Bioethics; Principles of Biotechnology, amongst others. He has attended local and international conferences and is affiliated to the West African Society of Toxicology (WASOT), and the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition (JSSSPN). He has published in local and international journals. Research Keywords: Environmental toxicology & Stress tolerance; Soil-Plant-Microbe interaction; Bio-inoculation; Pesticides; Heavy metals.
