About Dr. YTA EDISUA MERAB

Edisua Merab Yta is a Pastor, Storyteller, Actor, Writer, Lecturer, Children Theatre Expert, NGO CEO, Development activist and consultant. she first worked as a Journalist in the News Agency of Nigeria (1985-1986) before joining the university of Cross River State as a Research Assistant in the Centre for Cultural Studies from 1986-1988. She then left for the University of Calabar Theatre Arts Department as a Graduate Assistant where she has remained till now as senior lecturer. She has B. A, M.A and Ph.D in Theatre-in-Education and Development. She also has acquired a Diploma in Theology and Church management from Azusa World Institute U.S.A. She is a member of many professional associations including Actors Guild of Nigeria, Nigerian Popular Theatre Alliance etc. Her area of specialization in Theatre Studies are: Creative Drama, Drama-in-Education, Theatre for Development. She is versatile and teaches in many other areas of theatre including Dramaturgy, Dance, Directing, Costume and Make-up, Playwriting, Puppetry and Mime. She also teaches courses in Tourism Studies. She is passionate about working for the voiceless in communities, she is concerned about bridging gaps of inequalities between women and men, and passionate about gender issues. She has worked with many international partners including UNDP, UNAIDS, UNFPA, US Consulate, World Bank, C-Change Echews etc. She has published a number of books including Because I am a Woman, Tales of Three Women, Drama with and for Children, Six Plays for the Beginning Director and The ABC of Dance Arts. Her Journal articles include: Adjudication and Band of the year Award ,An Appraisal of DreamBoat’s TV serial, Because I am a Woman, Imaginative story writing as effective tool in the acquisition and use of English Language skills among school children in CRS Nigeria, Changing meanings in patterns of Efik women’s Hairstyles, Changing trends in DreamBoat Children’s Theatre, Drama-in-Education and Domestic Violence in Ikot Ansa in Calabar, Thematic Narratives through Costumes in Carnival Calabar, The Arts Teacher Enriching Pedagogy through Arts based instruction and Using Identification in Entertainment Education Drama Serials to promote Women’s Rights in Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
