About Mrs. Victoria Kalu Uka

Victoria Kalu Uka is a Registered Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. She is currently, a Lecturer II in the Department of Nursing Science, Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Nigeria. She holds a Master of Science in Maternal and Child Health Nursing (MScN) and Bachelor of Nursing Science(BNSc) from the University of Calabar. Victoria has served in different capacities as a Nurse/Midwife before transferring her services to the University of Calabar. She served as a Nurse counsellor for the Society Against the Spread of Aids (SASA) from 2004-2007; Field Demonstrator (First Medical and Sterile Product, 2007); worked as a midwife at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit of the University of Calabar Teaching hospital (UCTH)Nigeria for seven (7) years. Community service responsibilities implemented include Examiner, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and a resource person for the Mandatory Compulsory Development Programme for nurses (MCPDP) in Cross River State. She also took part in the Reproductive Health Survey which targeted adolescents in secondary schools through the Federal Bureau of Statistics, Calabar, funded by UNICEF in 2007. In addition, she participated in the PLACE Project (Priorities for Local AIDS Effort), a post intervention survey, conducted by the Society for Family Health in February, 2008. On completion of her undergraduate study as the best graduating student in 2009/2010 academic session, she was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer (Research Fellow) in the Department of Nursing Science. This appointment necessitated her transfer of service to the University of Calabar in February, 2015. Her employment in the University has enabled her develop skills in quantitative and qualitative research designs, data collection methods, data computation, analysis and academic report writing. In the University of Calabar, she has lectured in Midwifery related courses, supervised undergraduate research and has served as Examination Officer in the Department of Nursing science. Her main focus of research is Midwifery and Nursing education. She has co-authored articles published locally and internationally.
