About Prof. Stella Eno Asirra Eguma

Dr Stella Eguma is a Professor of Anaesthesiology in the University of Calabar and an honorary Chief Consultant Anaesthesiologist in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria. In addition to an MBBS degree, she has a Diploma in Anaesthesia, the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in Anaesthesia and is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) Professor Eguma had her training both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom and has been a World Bank consultant to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Liberia where she trained the only Anaesthesia workforce providing anaesthetic service in that country today. She has also been the Chairman and Chief examiner of the Faculty of Anaesthesia and a member of Council of the West African College of Surgeons. She is presently the external examiner in Anaesthesia for the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. A very experienced and widely travelled anaesthesiologist and teacher, she has pioneered the establishment of Residency Training programmes in Anaesthesiology at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano and Usmanu Danfodyo Teaching Hospital, Sokoto. She is currently the Head of Department of Anaesthesiology in both the University of Calabar and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
