About Dr. Okorie Kalu Osonwa

Okorie Kalu Osonwa is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Calabar, Calabar. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.sc) in Economics from the University of Nigeria, a Master of Arts (M.A) in Population Studies from University of Ghana, Legon and a Ph.D in Sociology (Demography) from the University of Calabar, Calabar. Dr Osonwa was a visiting scholar in the University of North Texas from 2013 to 2014 for the study of Gerontology, sponsored by the National Universities Commission. He was Head of Sociology Department (2014-2016). His research interests cover the area of Demography and Public Health. Dr Osonwa is a beneficiary of the United Nations Fellowship (1992-1993) and one of those who attracted the Canada-sponsored Cross River Health and Demographic Surveillance System to the University of Calabar. He has published over thirty peer review local and foreign journal papers. He has also presented papers in both local and international conferences. Dr Osonwa has successfully supervised and co-supervised five Ph.Ds, ten M.Scs and over one hundred B.Sc. students. He is an Associate Fellow of the African Institute of Applied Economics and a member of the Sociological and Anthropology Association of Nigeria. Dr Osonwa is currently working with three Ph.D students.
