About Dr. Obinna Ebere Iheanacho

Dr Obinna Ebere Iheanacho is a lecturer in the Department of Haematology, faculty of medicine, University of Calabar. He is equally a senior consultant haematologist at the University Of Calabar Teaching Hospital. His fascinating academic career saw him attend Government College Umuahia and Abia State University, Nigeria as well as University of Bristol, United Kingdom. He obtained the West African Senior School Certificate in 1999, bagging distinctions (A) in virtually all subjects he sat for, proceeded to get the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2006. Thereafter he specialized in Haematology and blood transfusion at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital with an award of the fellowship of the Medical College of Pathologists (Haematology). Due to his preference for transfusion medicine and haemopoietic stem cell transplantation, he acquired a master’s degree in Transfusion and Transplantation sciences at the famous University of Bristol, UK. He equally trained as an apheresis specialist at the New York Blood Center, New York, USA and was instrumental in establishment of several apheresis centres across Nigeria. There are several scholarly publications in related field to his credit and he has won international awards including Visitor Training Program award of the American Society of Hematology (2015) and Commonwealth Shared Scholarship (2018).
