About Dr. Lawrence Awugo Ibom

Dr. Lawrence Awugo Ibom is an Associate Professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics in the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Wildlife Resources Management, University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. He joined the services of the University in 2011 as Lecturer I. His appointment was regularized to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2012 and was later promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2016. He holds a B. Agric. degree in Animal Science (1998), M.Sc. (2005) and PhD (2010) degrees in Animal Breeding and Genetics, all from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Dr Ibom is an erudite scholar and a prolific writer, teacher, researcher and mentor. He is the first African to successfully cross the black-skinned x white-skinned ectotypes of giant African land snails (Archachatina marginata) that won the 2010 STEP-B IOT Grant. He has served the University in other capacities including serving as Acting Head, Department of Animal Science between 2017 and 2019. He has successfully supervised and co-supervised over four graduate students’ theses comprising one PhD and three MSc students.
