About Dr. Kelechi Uhegbu

Dr KELECHI UHEGBU is a Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics University of Calabar as well as an Honourary Consultant in the University of Calabar teaching hospital. She completed her secondary education at Suleja Academy(Gifted Children School), Suleja, Niger State, Nigeria in 1997 and graduated from the Universty of Benin with MBBS in 2006. She proceeded for her housemanship in 2006 at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital following which she was called up for National Youth Service Corp in 2007. She did her residency training in the University of Calabar teaching hospital and obtained the Fellowship of the West African college of Physicians (FWACP) in the Faculty of Paediatrics in 2018. She was appointed Lecturer I in 2018. She has special interest in Paediatric Gastroenterology sub- specialty and has certification in Leadership and management in Health from University of Washington, USA. She renders clinical services to children with digestive, nutritional and hepatological problems, teaches medical, dental students and resident doctors and conducts research. She is also involved in various volunteer service such as medical outreaches and very committed in the service of God. She is a purpose driven and result oriented scholar with a great zeal to enhancing teaching, learning, academic advancement. Her clinical specialty of paediatrics has adequately equipped her in patient centered, evidence based, child focused and problem oriented care. Dr Uhegbu has several scholarly articles and still counting in both international and local peer reviewed journals. She is a member of many professional bodies in the field of medicine including; Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN), Nigerian Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NISPGHAN) and Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN). She is a born again Christian and happily married with children.
