Dr, Joseph Abebe Obu was born on 30th August 1967 and hails from Bayaluga Village – Bebi Ward in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Dr J. A. Obu joined the services of the University of Calabar, Calabar in April 1999 as a Graduate Assistant after obtaining a B.Sc. degree in Physics from the same University. He got his M.Sc. (Theoretical Physics) degree from the University of Calabar in 2003 and then proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Astrophysics & Cosmology in 2014. Dr Obu has several publications in diverse areas of theoretical physics and astronomy some of which have been published in reputable national and international journals. At present, he has written and is still writing physics textbooks for undergraduate students in collaboration with a group of Nigerian Physics Lecturers called Physics Writer Creation Series (PWCS). Dr Obu has supervised one Ph.D. student, co – supervised one Ph.D. degree student, and three MSc. degree students. He has attended several conferences, seminars, and workshops in Nigeria and South Africa. His areas of expertise include Computational and Mathematical Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Space Weather Research, and Astrophysics. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Physics, Nigerian Association of Mathematical Physics, Astronomical Society of Nigeria, and Nigerian Geophysical Society. While in the University of Calabar, Dr Obu has served as a Pre-degree Examination Officer, and later the Pre – Degree Coordinator for Physics Department, a Faculty Representative, and he is currently the Examination Officer for the physics unit of the Department of Physics.
