About Dr. James Ekpenyong Okon

Dr James Ekpenyong Okon was employed in 1998 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Educational Administration and Planning and was made Associate Professor in 2015. He had earlier worked with Cross River State Ministry of Education where he rose to Principal Education Officer between 1988 to 1998 before transferring to the services of the University of Calabar in 1998. Dr Okon obtained a B.Ed(Hons)degree in English-Education from University of Port Harcourt; M.Ed(Educational Administration and Planning) from University of Calabar; and Ph.D(Educational Administration) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The teaching career of Dr Okon spans many years, from 1988 in the Secondary School as a teacher in the Ministry of Education as an Education Officer, and in the University as a lecturer. He has seved his Department in various capacities including Head of Department (2013-2015) and Programme Coordinator of B.Ed. undergraduate from 2000 to 2003. Apart from giving lectures and facilitating seminars,conferences and training sessions for teachers in Cross River State, Dr James Okon is credited with being the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Educational Administration, Planning and Research (IJEAPR) hosted by the Department of Educational Administration and Planning, University of Calabar from 2013 to 2015. He was on the editorial board of the Journal and Book of Readings of Nigeria Association for Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP) yearly from 2011 to 2018. On undergraduate as well as M.Ed and Ph.D research projects and theses supervision, Dr Okon has recorded over 100 undergraduate project supervisions for UME,CES and Sandwich students from 1999 and currently. He has successfully supervised and co-supervised over ten graduate students between 2014 and 2018. Interestingly, as a National Auditor (from 2010 to 2014) and National Financial Secretary (from 2014 - 2018) of his professional association - the Nigeria Association for Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP), Dr James Okon was on Executive Committee NAEP and Central Planning Committee of Annual Conferences between 2011 and 2018 hosted by different Universities in Nigeria. He attended and made presentations in m,any of these conferences. Dr Okon is also a member of the following professional bodies- World Council on Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI), Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON) and Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria as well as Commonwealth Council on Educational Administration and Management. He has published over fifty journal articles, books, monographs and book chapters.
