About Dr. Iniobong Ebenge Andy

Dr. (Mrs.) Iniobong E. Andy graduated from the then Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Calabar with a second class upper division, B.Sc. (Hons.) Microbiology in 1990. She was the best graduating student of the class. She further obtained an M.Sc degree in 2000 and followed up with a Ph.D degree in the specialized area of Environmental and Public Health Microbiology. She attended Army Children’s School Rainbow Town, Port Harcourt, River State and Federal Government Girl’s College – Bakori, Katsina State for her primary and secondary education respectively. She had her mandatory youth service corp programme at Nitel Clinic, Enugu, Enugu State. She joined the services of the University of Calabar on the 14th of August, 2001 and has risen to the rank of Senior Lecturer. She is a member of several learned societies namely: Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Mycological Society of Nigeria (MYCOSON), Biopesticides Society of Nigeria (BpSN) and Nigeria Environmental Society (NES). She has supervised over seventy one (71) undergraduate research projects, seven M.Sc (7) and co-supervised three (3) Ph.D students. She has also held several positions of responsibilities such as Assistant Examination Officer, Examinations Officer, Departmental Seminar Co-ordinator, Assistant Secretary and Vice-Chairman of NES – Cross River State chapter. She is currently the sitting Head of Department of Microbiology. She has published about 34 scholarly articles in peer – reviewed journals. Her research interest is in the area of antibiotic resistance, efficacy of medicinal plants against microbial pathogens. She has attended conferences within and outside Nigeria. Dr. (Mrs.) Andy is a committed member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. She has served as the welfare Chairperson of the Union for 4 years. She has also been a two-time delegate to the National Delegates Conference (NDC) the highest decision making body of the union. She is a Christian of the Lutheran denomination and also a life member of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International (FGBMFI). Dr. (Mrs.) Andy is married to Pharm. (Barr.) Ebenge T. Andy and her marriage is blessed with three children. Her hobbies include: Singing, Reading and cooking.
