About Dr. Idongesit Kokoabasi Isong

Dr Idongesit KokoAbasi Isong was employed as Laboratory Scientist II in the Department of Chemical Pathology, University of Calabar in 2000. She rose through the ranks to became a Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist in 2015. After obtaining her Ph.D in Chemical Pathology in 2015 from the University of Calabar, her appointment was converted to academic in May, 2016. She is an Associate of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria. Dr (Mrs) Isong is a holder of B.Sc. (1996) and M.Sc. (2005) degrees in Medical Laboratory Technology and Chemical Pathology respectively from the University of Calabar. Her main area of specialisation is endocrinology and immunology with research interest in maternal and child health, oncology and phytomedicine. Dr Isong is involved in full time lecturing and research in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science with project supervision at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. She is currently the Coordinator of the Chemical Pathology Unit of the Department of medical Laboratory Science. Dr Idongesit Isong has acquired, through bench practice and research, valuable experiences in Medical Laboratory Science practice. She is currently mentoring, supervising and co-supervising over ten post graduate students comprising five Ph.D, three M.Sc and five Post Graduate Diploma students. She has attended and presented papers in both local and international seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences. She has published over thirteen papers in both local and foreign peer reviewed journals and is serving many journals as a reviewer. Dr Idongesit Isong is a member of many professional bodies including Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria, Nigerian and African Association of Clinical Chemist, Nigerian Cancer Society and American Society of Microbiologists. She loves travelling, reading and baking. She is happily married with children.
