About Prof. Idiong Christopher Idiong

Professor Idiong Christopher Idiong holds a PhD in Farm Management and Production Economics obtained from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Nigeria in 2006. He is a seasoned scholar and has put in 23 years in the university system, teaching, carrying out research and providing community services. His area of specialty is Resource, Production and Quantitative Economics, while his current research interests and collaboration are in the areas of assessing Agricultural productivity, Resource Use Efficiency, Poverty and Food Security of rural and urban Farming households in Nigeria. He has published widely in reputable local and international journals as well as consulting for States, National, World Bank and EU on some projects in Nigeria. He has handled the socio-economic impact aspect of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of a lot of development projects by government, individuals and corporate organizations, and among them is the Mambilla Power Transmission Line Lot 2, from Abong to Makurdi, financed by the Federal Ministry of Mines and Power. He is a visiting scholar to the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus as well as an External Examiner of Post graduate and undergraduates in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, University of Uyo and the Department of Agricultural Economics of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. He has served the Department, Faculty and University in various capacities including, Departmental Examinations Officer, Staff Adviser to various Students’ Associations; Chairman, Departmental Graduate Committee, Faculty Year four practical Training Programme/ SIWES Coordinator ; Faculty Representative on the Board of various Faculties in the University of Calabar, Acting Head, Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa campus ( Sabbatical leave: 2013-2014), Member Management Committee of Entrepreneurship Development Centre, of the University of Calabar (2013-2016) and Immediate past and pioneer Head of Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Calabar, among others. He has attended and presented papers at conferences, workshops and seminars. He is a member some academic societies including, the Nigerian Economic Society, Nigerian Environmental Society, Farm Management of Nigeria, Nigerian Society for Biological Conservation and the Agricultural Society of Nigeria. His hobbies include; football, travelling and reading. He is available for any research collaboration in the areas of food security, poverty, climate change and agricultural resource productivity.
