About Dr. Grace Etim Ekong

Dr. Grace Etim Ekong had served, briefly, as a classroom teacher in primary schools in Akwa Ibom State and later moved to the State Secondary Education Board where she taught music from 1991 to 1993. She joined the services of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in 1994 as a Graduate Assistant and has climbed the academic ladder to her present rank as a Senior Lecturer. Dr. Ekong had gone through all the ladders of education. She had her primary education and obtained the First School leaving Certificate (F.S.L.C.) and moved further to acquire secondary education and teacher training at the Federal Teachers Training College, Otoro, now Ikot Osurua, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area for the Teachers’ Grade II certificate. Not being satisfied with that level of education, she applied for admission into the then College of Education, Uyo to study Music. She graduated from there with a Distinction in Music. By this time, the College of Education, Uyo had metamorphosed into a full-fledged university, the University of Cross River State. As the first daughter of a retired teacher, she kept on searching for the Golden Fleece. This search took her to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) where she enrolled for the Bachelor of Arts programme in Music, still. She came out in flying colours bagging a First Class degree in Music. She returned to her Alma Mater a few years after to pursue a Master of Arts (M. A.) in Music Education and thereafter, the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) in Music Pedagogy at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
