About Dr. Godwin Ibitham Ogban

Dr Ogban, Godwin Ibitham joined the employment of the University of Calabar, Calabar in 2003 as a lecturer11 in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, now in Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences. He was promoted Senior Lecturer in 2011. Dr Ogban is a Honorary Chief Consultant Clinical Microbiologist and infectious Disease Physician in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar. He attended University of Calabar, Calabar, where he obtained B.Sc. (Hons) in Medical Laboratory Technology (1987), MBBCh (2000), M.Sc. Medical Microbiology (2007) and a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, FMCPath (2016), in Medical Microbiology and Parasitology. Dr Ogban has been teaching, mentoring and research in the area of medical microbiology with special emphasis on bacteriology, mechanisms of antibiotic actions and resistance, infection prevention and control practices and hands-on bench procedures. He has successfully supervised two M.Sc. degree students. Dr Ognan has published over 26 articles spread across both local and international peer review journals. He has also served the University in other capacities including serving as Acting Headed of his Department (2017- 2019). He is a member of many professional bodies including Infection Control African Network, European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Society on Nigeria, College of Nigeria Pathologists and many others. He has attended many local and international conferences where he made presentations and other useful contributions. He is married with children.
