About Dr. Ernest Ikechukwu Ezeh

Ernest Ikechukwu Ezeh is an academic staff in the department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Cross River State. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS 2008) from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria; International Council of Ophthalmology Certificates in Basic Ophthalmic Sciences/ Optics and Theoretical Refraction/ Clinical Ophthalmology (2015 – 2016); Fellow Medical College of Ophthalmology (FMCOph) in 2016 from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria; Fellow West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 2017; a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology in view (Msc in view), with specialty interest in Cornea and Anterior Segment as well as in Clinical Ophthalmic epidemiology. He joined the service of the University of Calabar on March 3rd, 2017 as a Lecturer one. He underwent his mandatory National Youth Service Corps programme at the College of Education Medical Centre, Ikere− Ekiti, Ekiti State in 2009/2010, after completing his one year Medical internship with the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Enugu. He is actively involved in teaching, research and collaborations in the academia. As a clinical Lecturer, he is a honorary consultant ophthalmologist with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Cross River State. He has his eyes on excellence, and has obtained the following awards: In 2012, the Maiden edition, Most Outstanding Ophthalmology Resident Doctor, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Cross River State; Ekiti State NYSC Honours Award Batch B’ 2009/2010; Third (3rd) Best Graduating Medical Student 2001 Class, Faculty of Medicine, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State; Best Graduating Student 1999/2000 set, Science School, Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State. He is a committed mentor to health professionals, youths, colleagues, resident doctors, and his students. He is a research mentor to many. He is currently supervising a postgraduate resident doctor’s dissertation on “Assessment of traditional eye health practice in a Rural Community, Odukpani LGA, Cross River State, Nigeria”.
