About Dr. Ekpenyong Ekpenyong Ekanem

Dr. Ekpenyong Ekpenyong Ekanem was born at Asang Eniong in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. He attended the following schools: The Presbyterian Primary School, Ididep; Lutheran High School, Obot Idim; The Polytechnic Calabar; Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt; University of Port-Harcourt, Port Harcourt; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; and University of Calabar, Calabar. In 1972, he obtained a First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) with distinction; West Africa School Certificate (WASC) in 1978; Higher National Diploma (HND in Accounting) in 1984; Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 1996; MBA Degree in Financial Management Technology in 2001; M.Ed degree in Educational Management in 2003 and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Economics and Politics of Education in Administration in 2010. He served in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in 1984-1985 service year and started his financial administrative career in Nigerian Ports Authority, Lagos where he rose to Manager Accounts. He later joined University of Calabar, Calabar as an Assistant lecturer in 2006 and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer in 2016 in the Department of Educational Administration and Planning. He has been teaching over eight undergraduate and six graduate courses in the Department. Dr. Ekpenyong Ekanem has authored four book chapters, forty-four research papers in many reputable National and International peer reviewed Journals and over ten national and international conference proceedings. He has successfully supervised and co-supervised two Ph.D theses and three M.Ed theses in addition to the many undergraduate research projects. He is a co-editor of International Journal of Educational Administration, Planning and Research. He has mentored many, and some of his former students/supervisees have risen to become university Lecturers and senior Public Officers. He has served in the Department of Educational Administration and Planning and Faculty of Education, University of Calabar in many capacities. These include Examinations Officer (2007-2009), Coordinator of Centre for Educational Service Programme (2009-2011), Coordinator of Undergraduate Project (2010-2012) and Member, Examinations Vetting Committee (2013-2015). Others are Member, Education Faculty Publications and Research Committee (2016-2018) and Chairman, Departmental Fellowship/Ethics Committee (2018-2019). Moreso, he served the Cross River State Community as a Coordinator of Public Primary School Teaching Learning Observation Scheme in Cross River State, Nigeria (2012). He also served Nigerian Nation as a Facilitator of UBE Commission Federal Teachers’ Scheme for 2013-2014 enlistment exercise and a member of ITF Monitoring Team for Computer Enhancement Training Scheme for Teachers in 2015. He is a member of many learned societies. Some of these are Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning, Common Wealth Council for Educational Administration and Management, Nigerian Institute of Management and Associate Member, Association of Certified National Accountants of Nigeria. He earned many honours and distinctions. Dr. Ekpenyong Ekanem is happily married.
