About Dr. Bassey Archibong Etim

Dr. Basset Archibong Etim was employed into the services of University of Calabar on 10th January, 2010 as Lecturer 1. He obtained his primary school certificate in 1983 after completion of primary education at primary school, Barracks Road, Calabar, Cross River State. In 1986, Dr. Etim obtained his junior secondary school certificate from the prestigious Hope Waddell Training Institution Calabar after studying there from 1983 to 1986. He proceeded to School of Arts and Sciences, Uyo where he enrolled in 1986 and graduated in 1989 with the Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education SSCE. Dr. Etim gained admission into Faculty of Medicine, University of Calabar in 1990 and obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB;BCh) in January, 1998. In 2002, Dr. Etim enrolled into the Postgraduate Residency Training programme of the Faculty of Ophthalmology, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, with his base training at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in the Clinical field of Ophthalmology. After 7 years of academic and clinical training, Dr. Etim graduated in 2009 with a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in the Specialty of Ophthalmology (FMCOph). He is a passionate teacher of clinical students and post graduate students in ophthalmology. He is a researcher in the field of ophthalmology and has further training and certification in subspecialty vitreo-retinal ophthalmology. He was promoted to the post of a Senior Lecturer in October, 2014 and has continued to render his services to the university. Dr. Etim is a Journal Reviewer to the Nigerian Journal of Ophthalmology and Nigerian Journal of Medicine. He is a mentor to many undergraduate and post graduate students. He has successfully supervised over 6 dissertations by Postgraduate clinical Doctors in Ophthalmology for award of fellowship. Dr. Etim has attended several academic and professional conferences within and outside Nigeria as captured below and has been involved in the organization of local conference. Dr. Bassey Etim is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association, Medical & Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria and Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria. Dr. Etim has over 35 articles published in peer reviewed journals within and outside Nigeria.
