About Prof. Anthonia Inyang Umoren

I was employed by the University of Calabar as Assistant Lecturer in 1988, a Master of Arts Degree in English obtained from the Ahmadu Bello University in 1985. In 1995 I obtained a Doctoral Degree from Abu, Zaria in English with bias in Comparative Literature (Gender Studies). I had earlier obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1978 from the Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, U.S.A. This was preceded by a National Certificate in Education( NCE: English/History) in 1975 from the College of Education, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. I am a Recipient of a number of number of awards locally in Nigeria and Internationall which includes: Leader, Haggai Institute of Advanced Leadership Training Skills, Singapore(1992), Award of Excellence for outstanding Contribution to humanity by Faculty of Arts Students, University of Calabar, Calabar,Nigeria 2008, Award of Extraodinary Leadership as Head of department by English and Literary Studies Students (2008), University of Calabar. Outstanding female Achiever as Ibom Jewels,Akwa Ibom state. I have attended over ninety Conferences locally and Internationally. My Publications include: Three books: One in English Language and two in Literature. I have over fourty published articles in distinguished Journals and books. I have served as the editor of Faculty of arts (CAJOLIS); as the Head of the Department of English and Literary Studies, University of Calabar.(2006-2008). I am a three-time Visiting Professor to the Universities of Uyo, Nigeria and Cape Coast, Ghana respectively. I have Convened Women Research Network (WHERNIN) and International Conference on African Literature and the English Brutus as my key note speaker. I have given several talks at various fora including the churches and Schools. Furthermore, I am interrogating female gender work space with a view to self –empowerment / actualization especially in literary space.
