About Prof. Akanerem Idem Essien

Prof Akaneren Idem Essien, FNSAP, is a Professor of Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition in the Department of Animal Science, University of Calabar. After his Secondary School Education, he gained admission into the University of Ibadan graduating with 2nd Class Honours Upper Division in Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition. He completed his PhD programme in the University of Ibadan in 1983 and took up appointment as Lecturer 2 in the defunct University of Cross River State, Uyo in May 1984. His University Career and Administrative duties saw him through as Head of Department of Animal Science, Dean of Agriculture, Chairman Committee of Deans, Deputy Vice (Academic), Acting Vice-Chancellor, UNICAL, Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo and Visiting Scholar, National University Commission. He is member of Academic and Professional bodies, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Animal Production.
