WE ARE PROUD OF YOU, VC TELLS VICTORIOUS THEATRE ARTS TEAM

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu says the institution is proud of the great feat achieved by students of the Department of Theatre, Film and Carnival Studies who came first in the just concluded Nigerian Universities Theatre Arts Festival held at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. Prof. Akpagu who stated this while receiving the institution’s victorious contingents said their achievements would be recorded in the annals of history. He said their victory came as a result of the untiring efforts and commitments of staff, students and the Head of the Department of Theatre, Film and Carnival Studies. The Vice Chancellor said his administration would continue to support the Department for greater exploits even as he commended the Head of Department for bringing back the glorious days of the Department. He said, ‘’ We are very proud of you for bringing back the glorious days of Unical Theatre Arts and we will continue to encourage you for greater exploits’’ This came as he disclosed plans to establish the University of Calabar Carnival Band to further promote the activities of the Department. Earlier, the Head of Department of Theatre, Film and Carnival Studies, Prof. Emmy Unuja Idegu commended the Vice Chancellor for his support, which he believed, culminated in the victory. He said Unical contingents participated in the festival with the spirit of determination and courage. Prof.Idegu said, ‘’ Staff and students of the Department are very thankful to the Vice Chancellor for providing the enabling environment for us, and I must say, this helped us to win. ‘’ We went prepared; we went with Zana Akpagu’s spirit of hard work and determination. Everything we have achieved is team spirit’’ The Unical Contingents who came first also carted home the greatest number of awards including: First position in Stand-Up Comedy, First Position in Spoken word, first position in short film, Best Female Actor, Third position in Modern Dance, Third Position in Drama and First Position in on the spot solo performance.
